BIOGRAPHY

Kate graduated magna cum laude from William & Mary School of Law in 2013 and since then has focused her practice on estate planning and administration primarily for high-net-worth families in Washington, DC, and Virginia.  Before working with Schooley Law Firm, Kate was an associate first at Venable, LLP, and from 2017 until 2020 at McGuireWoods, LLP.

During her tenure at Venable, Kate was awarded a fellowship at Bread for the City, in Washington, DC, where she represented survivors of domestic violence in family law matters in the DC Superior Court. She now uses this knowledge of family law to help clients protect their assets in the event of family disputes.

In the summer of 2020, Kate relocated to Berlin, Germany with her family and since then has been continuing her practice remotely. As a remote attorney, Kate has embraced digital tools and technology to provide seamless legal services to her clients in the U.S. Kate has her license to practice in both Virginia and Washington DC and is a member of the Virginia Bar Association Sections of Taxation and Trust and Estates, and the DC Bar Association Section of Estates, Trust, and Probate Law.

In addition to her extensive skills preparing estate planning, business succession planning, and lifetime gifting documents, Kate also has experience preparing gift and estate tax returns and helping families work through the post death transfer of assets in complex situations. Kate uses her experience to provide fiduciaries, both individual and corporate, with advice and helping them to administer estates and trusts properly.

In her free time, Kate enjoys exploring Berlin’s vibrant arts and culture scene and spending time with her husband, Torben, and their daughter, Ellie.
